Can I haz more than 3 Competitive Link Analysis competitors?

Aaron Wheeler
suggested this on November 30, 2010, 10:35 AM

I didn't see any previous mention of a limit of 3 domains for competitive link analysis. Is there a way I can add more? 3 is rather limiting.

---

We don't have a way for you to see more than three at a time for now, but I'll pass the message along to our team and we'll see what we can do to add that functionality down the line.

Hey guys - I want to provide an update here.  We have not yet started work on this, we have been instead prioritizing the speed and priority of our data to put us in a better shape for the rest of the year.  I still really want to do this - at this point it has not started so I cannot promise it will happen - but it is an important problem to solve for us.  Sorry I cannot provide more detail now - will let you know as I know more.

Just a +1 on this - I'm considering moving to another service because the tracking they offer is daily plus many more competitors!

This is well trodden turf. But since this has been "planned" for some time, YES PLEASE! I would actually suggest not just a wholesale function of adding more competitors (which yes, would be nice), but allowing Pro users to assign industry designations to competitors and track them either on aggregate or through tags/industry. If you have to bump it as a premium service, DO IT!

We have many clients that are blended retail - service for example. They compete for keywords and visitors with one "set" of competitors in one field, and another set in the other. Our company is in the same boat. SEO, Information Technology, Marketing, Creative. There are some well-rounded competitors that are better representations of a blended line of services or products, but in many instances you have people that just do one. When push comes to shove, you either have to make a separate campaign and track these people who are competing with you in an individual area, or ignore them even though they may be amongst the "best" in your area at their just one thing...

So annoying!

I think 5 competitors would be a lot better than only 3.  I know you have to draw the line somewhere but I think 5 would be a much better limit.

We are on the pro account, but cannot add more then 3. Support help files indicate that 5 is the limit. http://moz.com/help/guides/getting-started/campaign-settings

Any help here?

Hello!  Well obviously we didn't hit our original date here.  We try to err on the side of transparency at Moz, meaning we sometimes share things a little early.  The story is that the feature got pushed back against a mountain of other Moz Analytics work.

However, over the next few months you will start to see a bit more of a focus on competitive analysis in Moz Analytics.  For example, in the Brand and Mentions section, you can setup Competitive Mention queries to find new links your competitors have, or people talking about them.  In Social, you can track more competitive accounts, in more detail, as well as add Google Plus competitors.  So you can expect to see more competitive analysis as a theme in Moz Analytics.

But to get back to your question of adding more Site Competitors, I cannot give you a date for it right now - the fact is we just don't know.  But I will keep this thread up to date with any advancements on that, so follow here if you want the latest news!

Hello!

Great news-- we're about to launch an update that would allow users to track up to 5 competitors. It is part of a larger release in the next 2 weeks. Yeah!!! You'll get an email in your inbox that announces this, so you'll know when you can add those competitors :)

Have a great Monday,

Hi SEOmoz,
I have a question.
Can I crawl three competitors per campaign only in the trial version or can I track more switching to PRO?

Great question, and sorry for my slow response. We've kept a short-mid-term look as upcoming features on this page historically, but we've done a poor job in keeping it up of late. At the moment, there is no forward-looking information.

I'm going to work with the rest of the product management team to present more insight into coming updates where we can. If you have specific ways that you'd like to see this information shared, please let me know.

Hi Adam,

Thanks for your take. Is there any formal or informal roadmap published or to be published? I searched the community for it, but couldn't find it.

I'm afraid that it's still tied to a larger effort, and probably won't be in place until early 2013.

Hi Adam,

Thanks for the confirmation that benchmarking more competitors is in the works.

Could you give us a rough idea of when this feature is planned for inclusion?

Thanks,

Thanks to everyone for sharing your needs with us!  We are planning an increase in the number of competitors we will support in the app as part of a larger release later this year. Our target is to allow for 5 competitors.

Yes please. 12 would be good for us.

If storage data at SEOMoz is an issue, perhaps users could "trade in" their Campaigns slots for competitor slots on (1x) main campaign?

For example, we're an in-house user, so only really have one campaign for our 1x company web site, but we have about 12 competitors competing for our keywords.

We would love to do this. There have been several threads over the past year requesting customizable/more plan options for our customers, and I think it is definitely something we want to do in the future.

We really appreciate all your ideas and feedback and really want to make sure we please everyone :D Thanks for your awesome ideas, keep the comments coming!!!

Cheers,

I agree with MWILCKO, we would like to log as many as 15 competitors against a campaign, currently using multiple campaigns against same criteria just so we can monitor everyone we want to.  I would rather not waste campaigns in this way.  If there is an slight (less than $5/month) fee for more than 10 but less than 25 I am willing to pay for that.  We do most analysis on screen so I can not make recommendations about what sort of reporting is required.

Being able to add more competitors for analysis would be extremely useful for all of my clients for similar reasons as outlined by @ktjames above. I would imagine a great number of websites sell a variety of products and services, meaning each keyword 'set' has it's own set of competitors. What would be really useful is to have a unique set of competitors (maybe top 3 for each) for each tagged group of keywords. Or even add the ability to better group keywords for the sole purpose of adding top competitors to each group. I'd love to know if any of this is planned in any up and coming updates please?

We've used one or two other tools that allow ten competitors, and even that was a bit limiting for us (rather crowded field). Something along the lines of fifteen would be ideal. We'd probably consider paying a bit more for additional competitors, if it were necessary to offset the additional data storage requirements.

To remove or change competitors:

1. Go to the campaign you wish to edit

2. Hit the "Campaign" Tab

3. Click "Settings" > Scroll to the bottom of the screen and adjust your competitors as desired.

I just submitted this question as well, so I vote for more campaigns please! One of my clients sells more than one type of product, so they have different competitors for each product type. Same thing then goes for keywords. Thanks!

I'd like to see this as well. I actively track 10 competitors for one of my campaigns and would like to have better comparison metrics.
